Top 5 Saddest Animes of All Time

So I have been watching a lot of sad anime recently, probably because I like that gut wrenching depression a really sad anime can put you into. I know that a top 5 is kind of subjective, but these are my top 5 saddest anime of all time. (Spoilers)

5 – Puella Magi Madoka Magica

I already know what you are thinking, how is a dark magic girl anime sad? Well the fact that she had to give up her family just so that she could kind of save the world seems like a lot to give up. Plus she now only has 1 friend who even knows she exist… and Kyubey

4 – Shigatsu wa Kimi no Uso (Your Lie in April)

The whole thing is just a wave of emotion. I would say sadness dominates a good portion of this show with the end showing a little promise of maybe not being super depressing.

3 – Angel Beats

I actually already have a review of Angel Beats on my blog which can be viewed here. Its the kind of sadness you feel when you graduate from high school. Like “Thank god high school is over I hated that” and the fact you are now part of the “real world” hits you like a sack of bricks.

2 – Plastic Memories

This anime almost isn’t sad since I think from the first moment they tell you about Giftias life spans you kind of know Isla time must be coming close to an end. The show then somehow convinces you that everything will be okay. SURPRISE ITS NOT OKAY. I cried at the end of this one.  I also reviewed this one.

1 – Anohana: The Flower We Saw That Day

Seriously if you have seen this show and you aren’t in tears you probably have no heart. I have no words to express how sad this anime honestly is.  The good bye letters will have you so messed up you will be surprised by all the tears you produce
